On the afternoon of October 13, the Dialogue between Secretary/Mayor and Overseas Media Event, co‑hosted by the All‑China Journalists Association and the Publicity Department of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, was held at the Jinji Lake Reception Hall of “Eye of Suzhou”. Wang Wei, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee and Mayor of Suzhou, had face‑to‑face exchanges with international guests participating in the 2026 Belt and Road Journalists Forum.

Wang Wei extended a warm welcome to the 19 international guests who came to Suzhou for the themed reporting tour “Journalists from Global South Countries See China”. He introduced Suzhou with six keywords: innovation, smart manufacturing, openness, humanity, beauty and well-being. He noted that Suzhou has been an important node of the Maritime Silk Road since ancient times, and openness and cooperation are embedded in the city’s development genes. He hoped that international guests would travel around and observe more during their stay in Suzhou to get an in‑depth feel of the city’s charm. Taking this event as an opportunity, Suzhou will further deepen economic and trade exchanges and people‑to‑people bonds with countries and regions participating in the Belt and Road Initiative.

In the course of exchanges, international guests from India, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Cameroon, Nepal, Rwanda and other countries raised questions on topics including study and career development of expatriates in Suzhou, impacts of globalization on countries and regions, Suzhou’s business environment for foreign‑invested enterprises, investment by local enterprises in Belt and Road countries, science and technology and logistics cooperation, and ecological and environmental governance.

Wang Wei held one‑on‑one discussions with the guest questioners and addressed all their queries. He noted that adhering to the vision of extensive consultation, joint contribution, shared benefits and win‑win results, Suzhou will further strengthen industrial cooperation with Belt and Road countries and regions, expand practical cooperation in new energy, auto parts, textiles and garments, cross‑border trade and other fields, and continuously foster a first‑class market‑oriented, law‑based and international business environment, so as to provide high‑quality and efficient services for enterprises and international talents in Suzhou.

Shen Zhidong, Municipal leader of Suzhou, Qian Yu, Secretary‑General of the Suzhou Municipal People’s Government, and responsible officials from relevant municipal departments attended the event.
